Six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus lived, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. Here a dinner was given in Jesus’ honor. Martha served while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him. Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. John 12:1-3
A Holy Welcome Mat
There are places I long to hang out.
One that comes to mind is Bethany.
Several scenes throughout the New Testament are set in the home of Lazarus, Martha, and Mary.
In the above scripture, we find Martha doing what she does well: serving. Jesus does not rebuke her, for He says the greatest among you will be your servant.
Lazarus was the host hanging around the table, jawing, enjoying Jesus' company and presence.
Mary does what she does so well: worshipping. She knew worshipping at Jesus' feet was her life expression of love.
Each one is different, but what continues to rise to the top is that Jesus was welcome there.
A home where Jesus could hang out without demands upon Him.
Do you have a secret place where Jesus can hang out without demands upon Him?
Is there a place where you and He can experience friendship?
What could change in your life to share fellowship with Jesus continually?
Is it a perspective?
Mindset?
Understanding?
A Belief?
Lord, how easily we forget the importance of just being with You. Come Holy Spirit and awaken our fellowship with Jesus in our everyday life. Find us abiding with You. Amen
