Therefore, you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another, you condemn yourself because you, the judge, practice the very same things. We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things. Do you suppose, O man—you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself—that you will escape the judgment of God? Romans 2:1-3
Critical Thinking > Critical Spirit
A critical spirit sours our appetite for fellowship with God and others.
There is a vast difference between critical thinking and having a critical spirit.
One looks for a solution—the other looks for who to blame.
One comes from confidence and humility—the other from insecurity and fear.
The Holy Spirit discerns and reveals the truth, which is just one dimension.
We still need His wisdom to operate righteously in every circumstance.
We must be careful, for a gift of spiritual discernment not under the Lordship of Christ will degenerate into judgment.
This will then lead to a critical spirit that is more damaging than not knowing the truth.
Which one are you exercising?
Ask God.
He will reveal your answer because a broken spirit and contrite heart attract His heart.
How has a critical spirit affected your relationships?
With God?
With others?
Lord, You have called us to love actively. May we walk only in the places You lead us with the wisdom to speak or be quiet. Empower us to know the truth and apply the truth for Your glory. Amen
