"Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do, and greater works than these will he do because I am going to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. John 14:12-13
What are Greater Works?
Discipleship is the process of becoming who Jesus would be if He were you. Dallas Willard
When you read "works," what do you think?
Is it miracles like healing, multiplying fish and bread, calming angry seas, and walking on water?
Could it be loving the outcast, enemies, children, lost sons and daughters, feeding the poor, or ministering to the captives?
We do all of these things as His body. Jesus is the head of the body, and He lives through us, His church.
Jesus clothed Himself in our humanity.
Lived a life we couldn't live.
Died a death we couldn't die.
Rose again went to heaven to fulfill His promise of sending us the Holy Spirit.
Then, at Pentecost, Jesus clothed Himself in our humanity by filling us with His Holy Spirit.
Don't read the verses and think only of miracles.
It is Jesus living His life as us to love those in our environment.
Our purpose is the same as our Father's and the Son's: LOVE.
How have you been living by your experience instead of what Jesus promised?
Why can great works of love in your life not be explained by anything but Jesus alive in you?
What does loving your enemies look like in your life?
Lord, You are our life! You love people through us in the unique ways you have created and planted us. Awaken us to the eternal reality of Your life within us. Amen
