And God can make all grace abound to you so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. 2 Corinthians 9:8
Healthy Expectations
Life.
What are our expectations?
It’s funny how we allow our expectations to prevent us from living and enjoying what God has given us.
There is often a giant chasm between our expectations and our experiences.
When our expectation is greater than our experience, it leads to disappointment.
If the disappointment isn't rightly dealt with, it will lead to resentment.
Resentment left to fester leads to exile in the far-off land of bitterness.
Trust me on this: you cannot hide the bitterness!
Bitterness will bleed through the iron facade of Christian well-doing and taint every action and relationship.
Unmet Expectations–Disappointment–Resentment–Bitterness
How often have I had unspoken expectations of others, judging their actions by what I think I would have done?
We go through life judging others by their actions and ourselves by our good intentions.
I’ve sometimes allowed expectations of myself and how my life should be to get in the way of simply living.
May those expectations dissolve and yield into an expectancy of living in the present … in His presence.
Have you taken inventory of your expectations in the following areas?
Yourself. How might your expectations of yourself be higher than what God has for you?
Ask the Father to speak to you about what He says about you and His dreams for you.
Others. Are you demanding more of others that, if asked of you, you could not fulfill?
Ask God to give you His eyes to see others and the future He desires for them.
Your Children. Are you asking them to be braver than you? Are you expecting more of them than yourself?
Ask the Father to reveal His plans for them and give you the wisdom to lead as you love.
Lord, You know all things. Speak to us, Your freeing truth about You, others, and ourselves. We want You and have an expectancy of Your presence. Amen
