After the Philistines had captured the ark of God, they took it from Ebenezer to Ashdod. Then, they carried the ark into Dagon’s temple and set it beside Dagon. When the people of Ashdod rose early the next day, there was Dagon, fallen on his face on the ground before the ark of the Lord! They took Dagon and put him back in his place. But the following morning, when they rose, there was Dagon, fallen on his face on the ground before the ark of the Lord! His head and hands had been broken off and were lying on the threshold; only his body remained. 1 Samuel 5:1-4
If You Have To Help Your God, You Have An Idol
Do you have to prop up or help your gods?
How do problems with the church affect your relationship with God?
How do you respond when your circumstances are unfavorable?
I have found that idols come in many forms.
Shapeshifters.
If you've been around the church world long enough, you may depend on something or someone instead of God.
If you constantly feel like juggling relationships to keep everyone happy, you may have an idol.
If you must patch up relationships, duct tape broken systems, or get your ducks in a row to be okay, you may have an idol on your hands.
And why would anyone want to worship something they have made or think they can control?
Ask the Holy Spirit to examine your life and reveal anything or anyone you put in God’s place.
Come, Holy Spirit, reveal anything that is not of You, no matter how good it may appear. May we love people and not the relationship. May we love the You; we see in Your body, the church, not the form. Forgive us for substituting anything or anyone in Your place. May we no longer try to drink from dry cups but Your everlasting cup! Amen
