Jesus often went away to other places to be alone so that He could pray. Luke 5:16
We Can Know God's Will and Receive His Power
Luke stated an observation, a lifestyle, something obvious about Jesus' prayer life.
Something different.
Jesus spent uninterrupted time with Our Father.
Several other passages illustrate His dependence upon prayer, where He went away alone to pray:
Before choosing His disciples.
To grieve after John the Baptist's death.
To the desert to prepare for His ministry.
After working hard with people.
In the garden before His crucifixion.
Jesus totally depended on earth to receive the power and knowledge of His Father's will through prayer.
Like with Jesus' life on earth, prayer is how God has chosen to communicate and empower us.
Think of your phone hooked up to your computer via a USB cable. A USB cable can transmit power one way and communication both ways!
This is like prayer. God sends us His power, and we speak and listen to each other.
If Jesus needed prayer to know and do the will of His Father, then so do we.
In what ways have you looked to prayer as a means to your ends?
How have you seen prayer as a work instead of a privilege?
Lord Jesus, teach us to pray. Amen
