So keep your thoughts continually fixed on all that is authentic and real, honorable and admirable, beautiful and respectful, pure and holy, merciful and kind. And fasten your thoughts on every glorious work of God, praising him always. Follow the example of all that we have imparted to you, and the God of peace will be with you in all things. Philippians 4:8-8
Meditation or Worry?
“What worries you, masters, you.” John Locke
Simply saying, "Don't Worry," doesn't work for most people.
It isn't like people want to worry (even though I have known people who could make it an Olympic event).
Meditating on God is simply thinking about Him and His ways repeatedly.
It is dwelling on Him.
Worry is the same process but with a different object and remarkably different outcome.
Worry is thinking over and over about the outcome we don't want.
Faith is fruitful thinking, and worry is fruitless thinking.
We will think about something, so the only antidote is not to stop thinking but to change what and Who we are thinking about.
Turn your eyes upon the One who alone is worthy and dwell upon Him and His goodness and faithfulness.
Meditating on Him beats worry like paper over rock and scissors on paper!
He will give you peace that displaces your worry.
How often do you find your thinking highjacked by worry?
What are the common themes of life that you worry about?
How might you know your worrying and the antidote of dwelling upon Him?
Lord, You are in control. Your love is perfect, and may we only desire You, Your ways, Your glory, and overwhelming love in our lives. Amen!
