Again, Jesus spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life."
More Than Living And Dying
The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days trying to prolong them. I shall use my time. Jack London
These are the replies I often receive from Jesus' followers when I ask, "How are you doing?"
"Just gettin' by, brother."
"Better than I deserve."
"Okay"
Really?
Nothing about Jesus' promise of abundant life implies or insinuates that it is about just trying to make it or gettin' by.
Nor has Jesus promised this life would be like a Disney movie about ducks, puppies, and rainbows.
That would be an adventure without risk, and that is Disneyland, as Douglas Copeland penned.
The question for everyone is, will you live this one life to the fullest that Jesus has purchased and supplied with Himself?
At the very least, it is an adventure!
In the same way, let your light shine before others so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father, who is in heaven. (Jesus)
Looking at the above verse, we must understand that we are shining because we were burning like the sun or torches in use when it was written!
The same is true for us; we will shine when burning yet not consumed by the Holy Spirit. Our life!
But there's more to this life than living and dying,
More than just trying to make it through the day;
More to this life, more than these eyes alone can see,
And there's more than this life alone can be.
Steven Curtis Chapman
As you examine your life:
How have you concealed the life of Christ within you?
Describe what life on fire by the Holy Spirit means to you.
In what ways have you shrunk from walking in all that Jesus has paid for?
What is your one next step to living your life to the fullest?
Lord, may we wake up daily with "Thank You for loving me" on our lips as we live as Your sons and daughters! May we live not to exist but burn with holy passion and reveal Your glory in our everyday lives! Amen
