And He said to them, How is it that you had to look for Me? Did you not see and know that it is necessary [as a duty] for Me to be in My Father’s house and [occupied] about My Father’s business? Luke 2:49
My Father's Business
Have you ever lost a child in a crowd? Ever wondered why your child wasn't at the designated place and time? Has your mind ever had the chance to run into every possible lousy scenario when your child doesn't show up?
Imagine Mary and Joseph's fears when Jesus was not found in their returning caravan.
A day later, when they finally found Jesus, His response seemed so matter-of-fact:
Don't you understand that I am about my Father's business?
(There are several different translations, yet they all imply Jesus being found at the temple, His Father's house, tending to His Father's business or affairs.)
As if there was nothing else to imagine.
About His Father's business.
In the manger.
Working with Joseph carving wood.
Encountering Satan in the wilderness.
Turning water into wine.
Teaching His disciples.
Healing all those who are broken in body, mind, and spirit.
Dying on the cross.
Sitting at the right hand of His Father interceding for us.
Jesus is always about His Father's business, doing what He sees His Father doing.
How do you see Jesus' life today?
What is Jesus' role in your life now?
Jesus, You are so much more than an example; You are our life! Amen
