By this, all people will know that you are my disciples if you have love for one another. John 13:35
Loving Relationships Reflect God's Love
Having begun my journey with Christ within and beside me over 35 years ago, I marvel at how He leads others to show us His love.
Of course, there are circumstances in which to learn, and the only thing I have truly learned from them was a profound dependence upon Him.
Trust that He is in control, and any control I have is an illusion.
But it is only in relationships we learn to love.
Abba Father knows best.
Yet, in community, I have learned to love with His love, not mine.
What's the difference?
Well, my "love" tends to have expectations of others that are not His.
My selfish passion ends in anticipation of my rewards, my needs met, and my glory.
I know it is His love when I start with only one desire: wanting the best for the other person.
I have a life verse from III John verse four that describes this delight. "I have no greater joy than to see my spiritual children walking in the truth."
What is that truth?
The truth is that God created them, loves them, and desires for them to live out His life through the unique way He has made them.
This results in God's glory. Not mine.
So, as I walk on this journey, I may be further along, but I am no further ahead because the One we are walking with is taking us to the same destination.
There's no getting ahead of Him!
Or one another.
What is God teaching you about love in each of your relationships?
Which relationship is God leading you to greater transparency?
How might you risk learning more about sharing His love?
Lord, You have made us in a relationship with You for others to express Your love to them. Open up our hearts to each person we encounter. Amen
