“Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” Galatians 5:25
Solitude with Him
What is the difference between isolation and solitude?
Isolation leads to barrenness.
Solitude leads to fruitfulness.
As a follower of Christ, I quickly become deceived into thinking I am living holy if I isolate myself from others.
It's easy for me to think I "have it together."
Isolation is a form of insulation from the very people or circumstances that God uses to form us into the image of His Son, Jesus.
God doesn't just put others in our lives to bless us but also to afflict us!
It sounds like a crummy system, but we need challenges and resistance to grow. Period. We will never get into the position of "Oh God. Help Me!" unless we have a relationship with others.
Difficult people are beneficial in our lives to reveal whether or not we are really loving others or just enjoying the adoration of those who like us.
This is how He often prunes us to bear more fruit: His love through us for others.
Solitude is being alone with God to be restored.
It is usually accompanied by prayer, meditation, scripture reading, and fasting.
In solitude, God will show us our hearts and His heart.
I spend a lot of time in solitude daily and throughout each month.
These are the times that God uses to prepare me to walk back into relationships with the mind of Christ and the Father's heart for others.
Remember, abiding in Him leads to fruitfulness, sharing His love with others.
How often do you isolate yourself to escape from circumstances or relationships?
Who has God placed in your life so you may learn love without condition?
What steps do you need to take to establish a rhythm of solitude?
Lord, show us the difference between isolation and solitude in our lives. Lead us to the secret place with You where we learn about Your love for us and others. Amen
