So we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are unseen; for the things which are visible are temporal [just brief and fleeting], but the things which are invisible are everlasting and imperishable. 2 Corinthians 4:18
Kingdom Paradoxes
"The way of paradoxes is the way of truth." Oscar Wilde
One wouldn't usually read an Oscar Wilde quote in a Christian post, but it reveals the truth.
The Kingdom of God is paradoxical to the Kingdom of the World.
Often, we try to use the reason of this world to understand God's Kingdom.
This does not lessen the reality of either dimension; it just exposes the fact that the principles and rulers cannot be understood similarly.
Consider the following examples:
Maturing in this world means greater self-dependence, also known as doing it yourself. It's like moving from having your diaper changed to making sure your underwear is clean and sans holes.
Maturing in the Kingdom of Heaven means a greater dependence upon the King.
Greatness in this world means to be the best at something or something you attain.
Greatness in the Kingdom of God is becoming like a little child or a servant.
Leaders are at the top in the Kingdom of this World.
In the Kingdom of God, leaders are the first ones following the King.
You must stand up for your rights in this world.
In the Kingdom of God, you exchange your rights for righteousness.
In this world, you must try to be strong to survive.
In the Kingdom of God, His strength is made perfect in your weakness.
If you completely give of yourself physically, you become exhausted.
But when you give of yourself spiritually, you get more strength.
You are born once, live, and die in this world.
In the Kingdom of God, you die once, are born again, and live eternally.
In this world, surrender results in defeat and captivity to the ruler of this world.
In the Kingdom of God, surrender leads to freedom to live His purpose.
You live in this world.
But, in the Kingdom of God, you live in Him, AND He lives in you.
God chose things the world considers foolish to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful.
How have you struggled to understand the differences between these two kingdoms?
How can we live in two dimensions at one time?
Does His Kingdom live in you?
Lord, reveal Your truth to us. Amen
