And when Jesus got into the boat, His disciples followed him. And behold, a great storm arose on the sea so that the waves swamped the boat, but He was asleep. And they woke him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing.” And He said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then He rose and rebuked the winds and the sea; there was a great calm. And the men marveled, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even winds and the sea obey him?” Matthew 8:23-27
When Hope Seems Asleep
"But He was asleep."
Be careful in reading these types of scriptures because they are familiar.
Take yourself there.
Imagine you are on the boat.
During a 'we are going to die' storm overflowing into the boat.
The experienced sailors with you are terrified.
There are no life preservers and no way to survive outside the boat.
Your only hope is asleep in the stern.
When your Hope awakens, He rebukes you, the winds, and the sea.
You marvel at a "man" doing this even though you've seen him perform hundreds of miracles.
When Your Hope Awakens
Your storms always pass.
Jesus never leaves you during the storm.
Your circumstances will change.
He never changes.
There is nothing He cannot do to glorify Himself.
"For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God." Colossians 3:3
If you are hidden with Christ in God, so are your circumstances.
Does Hope need to awaken you?
How does what you are going through right now compare with this?
How often do you see your circumstances but not the Lord of your circumstances?
You are Lord of me, my circumstances, and my story. Please remind me as often as needed to turn to You and know intimately You love me regardless of what my circumstances are trying to tell me. Amen
