God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1
Who Or What Is Your Refuge?
“Every form of refuge has its price.” Henley & Fry
If your refuge is other's opinions:
Then you've built not on sand but quicksand. When other's opinion changes, you'll find yourself sinking as you fight against the shifting opinions.
If your refuge is success:
Then you've built on the side of a hill. When torrential rains come, the mudslide of failure will cover any remembrance of success.
If your refuge is a mind-altering substance:
Then you've built inside a balloon, for, someday, it will pop or leak, and your house will break into pieces.
If your refuge is your job:
Then you've built on the moon. When the sun is gone, you cannot live in a hostile environment.
If your refuge is your pride:
You've built your house like a two-year-old. When mom puts up the blankets and pillows, you'll be exposed to the world as an imposter.
If your refuge is isolation:
You've built your house out of paper mache. You'll consume your very being for heat when the cold loneliness sweeps in.
If your refuge is God's love:
You've built upon stone. He is never changing. His love redefines success. His love fills our spiritual void. His love supplies all our needs. His love humbles. His love never leaves. His love never fails.
Where have you found your refuge outside of the Father?
Lord, how secure I am in You. How sweet it is to dwell in Your house. Amen
